Senior Match report Vs Caloundra

A Grade
Caboolture Rugby travelled to Caloundra to do battle for 4th spot on the competition ladder on Saturday, and a battle it was. Both sides had everything to play for and nothing to lose and this being the case it was a bruising encounter.
Caboolture began at a frantic pace and pressed Caloundra's line early, but some solid defence prevented Caboolture crossing the line. Once Caloundra gained some ball their attack, through some strong forward work, dominated and resulted in a converted try. The game then became an arm wrestle with play moving from one end of the field to the other through back line moves and powerful charges by both teams. Caboolture received a penalty to open their account. Soon after another Caloundra penalty allowed Caboolture's Tom Aldridge another opportunity to add points which he did. Caloundra crossed again for a converted try to extend their lead, not to be out done Caboolture scored an excellent try that was finished by Tane Keil but went through about a dozen hands. The try was not converted and the half time score was 14- 11 in Caloundra's favour.
The second half was much of the same hard grinding game as the first half with Caloundra kicking penalty goal and nothing more. Then late into the second half Caboolture fielded a ball in their own half and winger Kurtis Barney sprinted downfield using a very skinny touch line, his chip ahead was collected by Jay Forrester who placed the ball over the line. With the score at 17- 16 and full time looming the conversion would decide the match, unfortunately there was to be no fairytale ending as the kick went wide.
The final score was 17-16 to Caloundra.
B Gradedid not fare so well and were soundly beaten 50 -24, they still managed to score 4 tries, their attack is looking good but they need to improve on their defence.
The Womenwere Caboolture's last hope of a win on the day and their past games against Caloundra would have indicated that they should have come away with the points, however this was not the case. They went down 10-5 which is a little disappointing as they had the better of the game but could not convert the pressure into points. Caloundra's points came from 2 runaway tries from their 2 speedsters.
