Steve Tansley
Steve Tansley the man the Player, Committee Member & Life Member of Caboolture Rugby Union. From 1982 until the present day Steve has pulled the boots on and proudly worn the Caboolture jersey and played in the engine room of the team - Prop.
I am sure that when I say that all current and past players stand in awe of this man and his abilities as a player I am not streching the truth. To play the position that he does for 29 odd years (work has cut his appearances down in the last few years) is testiment to his love of the game and his strengh. At 50 something or other he is the oldest current player in the club and he still puts some of the younger players to shame with his workrate. His insight and level head has been a godsend to many committees he has served on over his many years. I personally have turned to him for counsel over many years with many issues and have always come away wiser for his advice.
Over the years all of his family have also contibuted to the club, beginning with Jess (his oldest daughter) who helped train senior teams as well as serving on committees. Sarah has organised functions for the club and is married to one of our past players Ricky Lewis (someone that I will feature in the future). Sean the youngest of the clan has also played at the club and was part of the 2001 Colts premiership team. Helen Tansley was also heavily involved in the club helping run the canteen for many years as well as organising many functions and washing many jerseys, all with 3 young kids either sleeping under the counter or running around.
Clubs need players such as Steve and his family to thrive and in the early years they helped mould the club to what it is today. We are also lucky to have someone such as Steve who always turns up for games with his kit in the car just in case (& as is nearly always the case he puts it on and plays). It is a rarity these days to have such a person who first thought is to support the club when the call goes out, as happened last weekend, and we are lucky to have him. The legend seems to have no end at this time and it will be a sad day when it does.
Steve Tansley, another true RUGBY MAN, LEGEND AND TRUE GENTLEMAN OF THE GAME.
