Senior Match Report round 11

Caboolture A Grade 55 Vs Nambour 14

Caboolture went into this match regretably minus a front row due to injuries and players unavailable. Because of this Caboolture had to play with 15 players only, a big task for the boys as they knew that any loss of players would see them having to play men down.

With this steel in their minds they took the field and hit the ground running, produceing 2 tries in the first 8 minutes of the game to set the standard of what was to come. The whole backline played the tune for a concerto of majestic backline play. The ball was swung wide and the outside backs chimed in with fine tuned displays of both strengh and speed that left the opposition wondering how to stop the flow. If the back line was the orchestra then Seb Rey, Tom Aldridge and Dan Manning were the co-conductors of this symphony from maestros of their individual positional instruments. Every backline move was exectuted with purpose and skill and entertained the faithfull. If the backline were the violins and fine insturments then the forwards were the procussion section producing thundering runs and defensive clashes that rumbled through the park.

Tane Keil, Dave Parker & Jay Forrester scored 2 tries a piece with combinations of strenght, speed and at one stage acrobatics. It must be noted that at times the forgotten man in this backline is John Clark who defends solidly and is the strong link man that produces the last passes on most occassions for the others to score. Not to be outdone the forwards through Matt Smith and Daryl Scott produced some strong runs and deft passing to set up the intial phases. Defence was also strong with Bayne Heath and Dane Abbott stepping up to the mark. Brad Lawrie, Chris Hilleard, Shane Long, Paul Bennet also provided great mobility and suppout play at every break down.

Please aspects of the game were that the team kept the pressure on throughout the game, this has been a problem of late for this team. On to many occassions this year they have gone into half time with sizable leads only to either scrape home by a small margin or be run down and walk away with a loss. This week it did not happen the pressure was cionsistant right throughout the match.

Scores on the day 2 tries to Tane Keil, Dave Parker & Jay Forrester, 1 each to Dane Abbott, Brad Lawrie & Dan Manning. 5 conversions to Tom Aldridge.

Best on the day Seb Ray , Matt Smith, & Dan Manning.

B Grade 5 Vs Nambour 15.

The B's played well for a losing side, they are finding some combination under the guidance of Gary Cossart and will only improve as combunations gel. They started well on Saturday only to sqaunder 2 try scoring opportunities, the complextion of the game may have been a liitle different if they had been converted to points. Nambour scored in the first half teice and led 10- nil at the break, when play commenced the boys stuck to their task and scored early to bring the score back to 10 -5 and they were on the attack. Good defence by Nambour stopped many try scoring opportunities. The game flowed from one end to the other and neither side could really say they had the ascendency. With the game winding down Nambour scored to reach the final score of 15 - 5 to Nambour. Best for Caboolture were Ben Wieczorek (also the try scorer), Kurtis Barney & Matthew Hobbs.

Women 32 Vs Caloundra 10

In the last outing against Caloundra the women were soundly beaten and shown a lesson in the physical side of rugby. From this the girls prepared them selves for the clash. From the outset the girls through the ball around to tire the bigger girls from Caloundra, this paid divdiends with some great tries from Vannessa Matthews and Sharna McInnes. Up 15 - nil at half time the girls knew what they had to do in the second half to bring the game home and they continued to apply pressure and Jana Mclenaghan and Kate Manning powered over for 2 more tries. Unfortunaltely they then fell off the pace and Caloundra ran in 2 quick tries to start finishing on top. Caboolture dug deep and protected their ground and forced a turnover resulting in a try right on full time to produce the 32-10 win. Best on the day was Alita Pilko who defended well and made some very decisive runs. Kate Manning was strong as was Martina Martinovsky.
