Another personality of Caboolture Rugby Union

Where do you start with someone like Paul 'Macca' McDonnell, well it is best to start at the beginning...the beginnigng of the club that is. Paul has played with the club right from the first game played and has done so every year since,  (some seasons have been shortened due to injuries unfortunatley) up to and including this season. He is a life member of the club, played representative football for Queensland Suburban Rugby Union and well over 300 games for Caboolture. He has held all the player trophies aloft at many presentation nights and his name appears on the the plaques of Best & Fairest, Best Back awards over many years.

Paul arrived at the first games young kid looking for a game and has grown into the elder player statesman of senior rugby here at the club. Time has not diminished his desire to play or in fact his ability on the paddock. He may have moved from being a dynamic centre to a very robust and solid flanker (some would say a promotion) and still he still remains a threat to any opposing team. Many players have moved through the club over many years and Paul remains the thread between where the club has come form and where it is going. The younger players all look up to him as legendary and the older players and past players stand in awe of his abilities. Over all the years Paul is always first to lend a hand at whatever has to be done to help here at the club. Junior parents will have seen him and his daughter, Georgie, helping behind the canteen on a number of occassions on junior days.

It has been in the last few years that Paul has really embraced a mentoring role and is the current senior players representative on the committee. Paul is a very shy type of person and I know that he will be embarassed by this article, but he well deserving of the recognition that he is due. Paul is well supported by his rugby suffering wife Sue, who allows us his time, thankyou Sue.

Please if you see him about introduce yourself and have a chat and thank him for his efforts and time he has put in up to now and into the future.
