Grant Lawrie the Legend
Grant Lawrie was introduced to Caboolture Rugby one Saturday morning by chance. Grant and his brother Graham decided to sign their sons (Brad & James) up for the other Rugby code and were a little dissapointed by the welcome they received at the respective sign on. A little dissapointed they left and did not sign the boys up, from the Lakes they payed a visit to Caboolture Park shopping centre where thay ran into Kevin Kaeser (how could that happen) who was handing out sign on brochures for Caboolture Rugby Union. Old silver toungue persuaded them to bring the boys down to the club and sign on here....the rest is history. The year was 1993.
Once down at the club another member suggested that seeing that his son was playing perhaps he would like to have a run in 3rd grade, convincing him that it was only social and great fun. With this in mind Grant agreed and away he went, surprise surprise when they arrived at the ground he found out that they were playing a rather large Samoan side, Grant did start reconsidering his options but the true tower of strenght that he is he kitted and ran on. That was 17 years ago and he is still running on today, even though he 'retired' 2 years ago.
Grant is truely a stalwart of the club he has held positions on the committee over a 10-12 year period, coached B grade for many years, built many things around the club including the original veranda (& most recently the clothing cupboard) as well as turning sometimes up to 3 games in an afternoon to help out other teams. He is a well deserving Life Member and a mentor for the younger players. His children have also played at the club including his 2 son in laws and daughter in law. Brad is the current A grade captain, Mel & Natalie were in the first womens team at the club (Mel stopped last season and is currently expecting - congratulations) Natalie had to stop last season due to other committments. Daughter in law Liz is still playing and is 1 of only 2 original players left from the first team. Both son in laws have had game time under the Caboolture banner.
There is nothing that Grant will not put his hand up for when it comes to helping Caboolture Rugby, much to his long suffering beautifull wife Janice's frustration. I would believe that if he were to be cut he would bleed Maroon and Grey blood. A true Rugby Man in the full sense of the word and I am proud to say he is my mate.
