Kevin Kaeser Story

Kevin Kaeser, the man the legend, super coach, groundsman, field builder, president (many times over), life member, clubman of the year (again many times over) the list goes on and on........ There is nothing that Kevin has not done. The term ' A TRUE RUGBY MAN' is bantered around at times but let me assure you that this term was based on Kevin's achievements and few will ever live up to it as he does.

Kevin was one of the founding members who over a game of squash with a few others decided that Caboolture was ready for a rugby club. Through his drive and never say never attitude a rugby club was formed, with no home and the canteen run out of a tent that was all stored at Kevins house, the club began. Julie, Kevin's long sufffering wife, ran the canteen back then and still does today on senior home games. Not content to accept this nomadic style of existance Kevin pestered the council until they relented and offered the grounds here in Petersen Rd. In those days the council alloted the land but that was all, the club members had to organise the clearing and forming up of the fields. So once again the volunteers where called upon and many weekends were spent picking up sticks and digging to build a field so they would come. It is rumoured that through his velvet tounge Kevin persuaded his then employer (The M@%n R*^%ds) to leave their machinery an site on weekends so that they would be safe. It is then alleged that said machinery was used on weekends to clear and shape the fields. The council then came on board and built the current clubhouse.

As well as playing Kevin coached the teams in the early days, he then coached junior teams when his son Matthew came along. There has not been one year that Kevin has not held some form of position on the committee's, he still coaches junior teams every now and then as well as mentoring other coaches. He has also been instumental in dragging convincing others (the writer is proud to say he was one of them) to become involved and instilling his passion along the way. Here we are 29 years later and Kevin is still President for this season and he still loves it and still looking at ways to improve and increase membership so that more people can share his love of the game. When you see him around the club, and you will, make sure that you go up to him and intorduce yourself and have a chat and I am sure that you leave the chat with renewed vigour about our club and what is happening.

This articale could go forever just listing his acheivements and roles, but I am sure in his modesty he would prefer it not to. It is then only fitting that the fields will allways be here bearing his name as a fitting tribute to a true legend of Caboolture Rugby Union.
