A Grade
Caboolture travelled away to face the competitions second top team on Saturday. Caboolture seemed a bit flat compared to their previous three outings and held on relentlessly to a deficit of one point at half time (8-7) coming from a try scored by Tarne Keil and converted by Tom Aldridge.
The game was very physical with both teams trying to assert their authority and both sides were willing to play expansive rugby so much so that when the final whistle blew both sets of backs were exhausted.
Although the final score of 24 to 14 in favour of University seems a fair margin the try were only 3 to 2 with our diminutive but deceptive half back, Sebastian Ray, zipping over for a second half try which was converted.
Caboolture, although slightly off the pace, showed the teams above them in the finals race that we have the skills and commitment to shake up the finals.
Coach Andrew Gibbs stated that we need to increase our intensity at the break down so we don't turn over possession and reduce the penalty count against us (which the team has worked on well this season)
Players worthy of mention are Seb Ray, Blane Heath, Daniel Nanning and Jay Forrester with their aggressive defence.
Reserve Grade
Coach Gary Cossart was very pleased with his team's performance against University, who are second on the table, only going down five tries to two. His team have been developing well throughout the season and with a great reserve of willing young players they will be a force to be reckoned with next year. They can't make the top four and play their last competition fixture against Fraser Coast this weekend.
Womens Team
Our women went down four tries to two against competition leaders University. We were only one point behind at half time but we were over run in the second half. The girls were tired at the breakdown and this cost them the match. Kate Manning had a great game with good support from Leane-jo Murray and Sharna McInnes who is learning the challenging position of fly-half.
